Hi everyone,
This is my latest personal work. I always loved surrealism, and especially Rene Magritte's works. In this project I tried to reconstruct the space and atmosphere of his famous painting: The Empire of Lights. At this imaginary place the drama comes from the contrast of the ground and sky. We see a sunny sky, but it's night in the foreground. An obvious, elemental connection is lost in the scenery.
First, I wanted to recreate the original setting, making a realistic model of the house and vegetation, and lighting it like the reference paintings. After that I rendered the opposite state of time, when the sky turns to night, but under it we see a bright, sunny environment. The two images are the total opposites of each other, still together they make a balanced pair, completing each other like yin and yang. Third picture sets place when the two different worlds meet, the sun sets in the background, and rises in the foreground (the "magic hour"

. I chose an autumnn scenery, because it harmonizes well with the colors of the setting sun.
For the main image I chose the third one, but other images are just as important for me:
-Here are some of the reference paintings:

-Here are the 3 different time together:

All modelling and rendering was done in Lightwave (Fprime, Kray for rendering), postprocessed in Photoshop.
